Homemade Hummus

Hummus is a traditional garbanzo bean paste from Middle East that has become quite popular all over the world. Even if it is customary to serve it with Pita bread, it goes really well with vegetables or as a side dish for meat.

Making hummus at home is super easy, all you need to do is just combine all the ingredients. The key to a smooth, even paste is peeling the garbanzo beans, apart from a few other tips I will share with you here:

-If you use dried garbanzo beans, soak them in water overnight and then boil them for 1 ½ hours.

-If you used canned ones, drain them.

-To peel them, place them in a bowl, add boiling water and 1 ½ tsp baking soda. Let them sit for a few minutes, then rinse under cold running water, rubbing them between your hands to loosen up the skin. Once peeled, place them in a bowl.
